Recovering

I have been exhausted. I went to bed early last night thinking I would get up at 4:15 & workout. I woke up with a nasty hang-over feeling. I still tried to get something done but couldn't even get through the warm-up without feeling like I was going to hurl.

I went to work & got through the day & managed to get it done tonight.

I've been trying to find a gym to join; at Wendy & Deb Gunn's suggestion. Other than the meat markets there really isn't anything around here that I'm interested getting involved in. If you've watched my facebook, you saw the post I put up with a link to a local "hardcore" gym. Seriously? No freakin' way. There is one that has a ladies night to include wine & cheese. IN THE GYM not next door like Rose's gym. WTF?

So I went to Ft Dix to check out their equipment. I haven't been in there in a while. They have all new weight equipment. That leverage stuff with the olympic weights & Nautilus. No free weights aside from the dumbbells. If I had been ready to workout, I couldn't have gotten anywhere near it. The Army was in the house.

My only other option is the gym at McGuire. I do know they have an extensive free-weight area; I just don't know what the equipment is like (benches, pull-downs, etc). I also know they have an extensive Nautilus area. I'm hoping to get out & check it out at lunch time tomorrow.

Tonights workout was Week 1 from last month & the conditioning workout we did at Wendy's:

My weights are considerable heavier than before my trip. I did have to WD40 my pullies & the slides on my equipment to get these weights up there.

Chin-ups 10 reverse & held it for 5 seconds at the bottom with my arms bent (OUCHIE)
Lat pulldowns (I used a mixed grip) 65 lbs
Cable rows 65 lbs
Overhead press 15 lbs
One arm side raise 10 lbs

At Wendy's I found out that I am much stronger than I thought I am.

I've got to get something to eat now. I'm hungry.

Gyms are a mixed bag, I think; there are two within walking distance of me. One is uber cheap and has tons of equipment BUT also attracts the worst of the meat market. The other is a little further and much nicer, but do you think I ever go there? I think it's because I feel like an idiot when I walk in the door. One more reason I should have taken the trip, I guess. :(

I'm glad you had such a good time, and of course you are super strong!! You were probably the only person who thought you weren't!

It's always fun to discover strength you didn't know you had, isn't it? You're going to be rocking the pull ups in no time!

Not sure what to advise about the gym. How often do you think you'll be going? If you're planning to become entirely a gym exerciser I suggest picking a place near where you live or work, so it's as convenient as possible. If you'll only be going one or two days a week to lift heavy, with the rest of your workouts to be done at home, location's not quite as critical although convenience is still good.
