DC was great. Cold as hell but fun.
We were actually staying in Silver Spring, MD but took the train in every morning. We were 1/2 mile from downtown Silver Spring & walked to get dinner the first night I was there. It was 20 degrees & the wind was blowing like a mo fo. It was fun! We laughed all the way to the resturant & all the way back to the hotel. You would have thought we were drunk. We were not! LOL
The train was within walking distance but we decided to drive over because it was cold & I wanted to get back in the warmth as quickly as possible.
Marie asked about the museums. What you see on the website is pretty much what you will see but seeing it in person is WAY better. We watched families with their kids--who for the most part were not screaming. It was fun to listen to parents explain things to kids as they looked at the different exhibits. I missed Erin!!! LOL
The National Archives were very cool to me. I have come to love our history.
I don't remember if I told this story before so if I did, please forgive me.
Last June when John & I were in Boston we went by the old State House & stood in the middle of the street on the location of the Boston Masacre. While we were waiting for the light to change one of those Duck Tour buses went by & we could hear the tour guide telling the people riding what the State House was.
The tour guide said that the State House is where the Declaration of Independence was penned. I was baffled. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the fuck this woman was talking about. I came home & forgot all about it. UNTIL Thursday.
When viewing the Declaration, I read the display placard that said that it was penned in Philadelphia. I was so relieved to know that I had not had a brain fart of such magnitude.
And that is why Philadelphia wants to make the tour guides take a test to get certified.
Anyway, I haven't been to DC in close to 15 years. I didn't remember that EVERYTHING is so close. The main metro station is right smack in the middle of the Mall. The entire distance from The Capital Building to Lincoln Memorial is only 2.5 miles. In that 2.5 miles you have the Smithsonian Musuems, the FBI building, National Archives (1 block off the mall), Washington Monument, The Wall, the Korean War Memorial, WW I & II memorials.
It is a great city.
Okay--on to fitness...
I got my plan for January from Wendy yesterday & did my first workout today. I was stronger than I expected to be after taking a little more than a month off. My core/abs are WEAK. After doing Alwyn's workouts that so do NOT focus on ab work, I found my ability to do some of what Wendy prescribed TOUGH. I couldn't do all V-ups. I did what I could.
I was going to do some cardio but I haven't finished cooking my food for the week. I have barely started & I'm BEAT.
I had to go to Costco & Wegmans. I got about 3 different rubs for seafood & chicken. I'm going to marinate some chicken in jerk sauce & cook it in my mini-crockpot tomorrow. I'm making shrimp & salmon tonight.
I get my produce from a little stand on the corner. It usually runs me about $20 for all of my fresh stuff for the week. I learned today that the close at 4 on Sunday. I got there at 4:05. Damn. I don't have a single fruit or vegi in the house. Looks like bagged salad for lunch tomorrow (the commissary opens at 7 so I can at least get that). Sigh.
Okay, I'm off to cook my salmon & shrimp.

Sounds like a fun trip! Woot! for getting your food prepped, even if the market stand was closed already. You sound ready to get after it! :)
