The results are in...

No weights for me. At all.

Turns out that my shoulder doesn't just have a tiny little tear that might get better with physical therapy. I have a detached labrum & torn bicipital tendon!!! FUCK FUCK FUCK And did I say FUCK??? No wonder it hurts. I mean okay, it doesn't HURT, it just sort of aches. Maybe I've got a really high pain tolerance and didn't know it. It does HURT when I reach for things that weigh more than 2 lbs but only when I reach. Oh yeah it hurts when I blow dry my hair & take shirts off over my head & when I open doors with my left hand (did I tell you I'm left handed?).

I did some research on how this will have to be repaired and the recovery time. If all goes well I'm looking at 4 weeks in an immobilizer. Can you imagine having your dominant arm tied down for 4 weeks??? FUCK Maybe I'll lose some of the weight I've gained back. LOL

With the way this looks I won't be doing the Broad Street Run or the Race for the Cure this year. Or any triathlons eitherr. Fuck.

On the bright side, I get 6 weeks off from work!!! I think I'll get bored & go back as soon as I'm able. We'll see.

Are you going to have surgery?

One of my clients had a similar tear and he said was very very painful. Fortunately after a while he regained most of the use of the arm although he did have some limitations with range of motion -- nothing that got in the way of doing things, but during training it was noticeable. Typical guy -- he didn't follow his doctor's rehab recommendations and I think that's what caused his post-surgery limitations.

Sorry you're going through this, but I'm glad you at least know what you're dealing with and what it will take to make it better.

((Deb)) I'm so sorry to hear this BUT at least now you know what the issue is and can make arrangements to have it taken care of. Don't worry about the workouts, the weights will be weight-ing.... mwahahahaha. I know, I know, I crack me up, too!

LMAO (well, okay maybe just a chuckle) at Marie. Weight-ing? hahahaha

It was funny because I knew there was a tear. I had no doubt. I've had tendonitis in my right shoulder. It never felt like this. But to be told yes, there is not only a tear but it is detached was a HUGE shock to me.

Yes, I will have to have surgery. Unfortunately I couldn't get an appointment until February 11th. I'm calling every couple of days to see if there have been any cancelations but...sigh...

I've done my research this time. I'm ready for whatever happens.

I am going to be anal retentive in my therapy. I don't want to end up with loss of range of motion & I don't want it to hurt any more than it does now. Which, really & truly, isn't that much most of the time. There are days when I think I would just as soon have my arm chopped off so I wouldn't keep "wrenching" it but most days...not so much.

Thanks for the well wishes ladies.
