my little drama filled life

Hi Stacey! Our stay-cation was awesome; very restful!  We got a lot done around the house & made some difficult, major life decisions.  John is going to leave his job effective 29 Oct.  We cannot continue to live the way we’ve been living & he is starting to deal with some health issues (& looking old as hell!).  The health issues are minor but we do not want him to get really sick or falling asleep at the wheel of his car & ending  up dead.

Here’s the hardest part of this.  We cannot afford to live on my income alone.  We are going to pay what we can & talk to the bank about the programs that are available to help those of us that owe more than our house is worth but can’t make our payments (short sale maybe).  Until we are late on payments they will not even talk to us.  We did not make this decision lightly.  We have been losing sleep over it for weeks.  We have discussed it with my parents & Erin & our pastor.  The only person that doesn’t get it is Erin because this goes against EVERYTHING that we have raised her to believe about finances & responsibilities.  She is trying hard to understand but…it’s very hard for her.

The good thing about the timing of this is that we are entering the holiday season so we are hopeful that John will get a job to bring in a little money.  We know that he would potentially work nights & weekends but he won’t be spending 5 hours in the car.  That’s the goal here.

There is potentially another couple of good things…Despite his resignation his corporate office believes they will be able to pay unemployment—he has to file a claim & allow the state to make the inquiry.  We’ll see.  We aren’t holding our breath but will take it if he can get it.  They have also offered to use him as a consultant.  If they call him he will get paid & they will reimburse travel, lodging & meal expenses.

It makes me really sad but the house is only collateral damage of the economy.  We went through the emails he sent out over the last 18 months.  He has applied for more than 1000 jobs & had 1 interview.  The recession was over in June my ass.

Workouts are going well & I’m steadily (slowly) losing weight.  I didn’t stick 100% to program while on stay-cation but only gained 1 lb back & that must have been water because it’s gone today (just 3 days later) & it’s TTOM.  Yay!  I am starting to have pretty arms—last year when I got down to 145 I didn’t have pretty arms like I have now.  I don’t have any sunless tanner or else I would slather it on for my monthly progress pics on Saturday.  Hopefully the definition I’m seeing will show.  My pants are loser & I’m back in my size 8s.  I have only lost 3 lbs since starting the program but 10 since July.  Yay!  I want to lose 10 more.  I’m working really hard to do that before the end of the program at the end of January.  I hope to do it before Christmas so that I get 1 month of maintenance before the program is over & I can’t do it anymore.  I’ll post pictures & stats over the weekend.

Sandi—in case you are reading I read your latest novella from my iPhone but didn’t respond (and am now posting via email).  It sounds like you had a good time on your vacation.  I’m curious about your deeper thoughts on his taking “just anyone” (my words) home for Thanksgiving.

Hope the rest of you are well.

I'm in the same situation with my house. Sucks, hunh?

YAY on clothing size reduction! To me, that's way better than "weight loss", because it's the right kind of weight being lost.

I will respond to your question about Thanksgiving in my blog today. :)

Tough situation, tough decision on the house. I know a few people who have stopped paying -- I guess you have to weigh all the possible outcomes and be as careful and strategic as you can be, within the realms of your budget. I worry all the time about what would happen if I couldn't make my mortgage payment. I hope John can get some relief soon. Poor guy! I hope the unemployment thing can go through. That will help some, at least!

Yay! on the shift in size. It's hard to be patient, but when you look back on all the progress, the time will seem to have flown. :)

I really hope all of this works out for you. Maybe that buyer for the house will show up! *fingers crossed*
