Information overload

I read the articles on Figure Athlete's site almost faithfully (sometimes the titles tell me reading will be a waste of my time). Earlier in the week (last week?) I read Rachel Cosgrove's latest entry, Attack the Fat.

The information is pretty decent as a whole & I've saved it to my favs for a future period of time (when I'm looking for my next rotation).

My question to you experts out there...what the hell are all of the supplements she is tauting? Are they anything I even need to be thinking about? My guess is that I can just ignore that part of her article (and any other author posted on the site) because they are tauting them because it helps fund the site. Right?

I like my EAS protein & will leave it at that.

John left for DC this afternoon. I've already cleaned up my iTunes & the kitchen. I've gotten my gym bag ready (tomorrow I begin taking advantage of the fitness time I'm allowed). I've started laundry. I'm going to do some HIIT & NROL-O in a bit--after I take a nap. :)

You don't need any supplements. PP is about all that's worth the $$$ -- maybe fish oil and a good multi.

Everyone is out to make a buck. Even Rachel Cosgrove (and especially figureathlete.com) :)

I don't mean this quite the way it sounds, but I used to sort of look forward to D leaving for his business trips because it always gave me an artificially created "new start" on things, with an end date (his arrival home). It was oddly invigorating.

Why is Wendy buying PP? LOL. I could NOT figure out PP was, and finally got it...Protein Powder. Hey, it's been a long day already....

I think it's "normal" to like it when they go away short-term. It's when you want them to stay gone that you know there's a problem. Uh...not that I ever felt that...

What Sandi said. Every married woman I know looks forward to her husband going away on short trips. It's totally normal and natural to enjoy not having anyone to take care of for a few days--and face it, we all DO take care of our spouses at least to some extent. Don't ask me why.

And, what Wendy said about the supps. Waterbury pushes the Surge (some sort of MRP powder) and Flameout (anti-inflammatory) as well, and while I'm sure those supplements are no worse than any other they definitely are not necessary. Hot Rox is a Hydroxycut-type stimulant of some kind--no clue what's in it these days, but I'm pretty sure it used to be an ECA stack: ephedra, caffeine and aspirin. Not necessary and not terribly good for you, but not dangerous enough to warrant being taken off the market IMO. I mean, if we can buy cigarettes and alcohol why not ephedra?

Susan Kleiner discusses BCAAs in Power Eating and IIRC deems them unnecessary but I can't recall exactly what her reasoning is.

FWIW--and Wendy could tell you more about this than I--Cathy Savage and Jodi prohibit the use of almost all supplements by their athletes. Protein powder is okay, and so are multis and things like fish oil capsules and glucosamine/chondroitin for joint issues. But no fatburners, no creatine, no prohormones, nothing of that sort.
