Major discrepancy

The clinic went through it's 3-year Health Services Inspection (HSI) today. My program was a primary focal point. I'm responsible for maintaining a database which tracks an AF member through the disability evaluation system (DES). I track certain dates, one of which is the "date of definitive diagnosis," the date a person was first diagnosed with the injury/illness that the patient is going through the DES for.

In March we had a process improvement event (PIE) for the program. During that PIE the lead on the the PIE said we were to change the date of definitive diagnosis to the date that a member was identified as needing to go through the DES. These dates can be VERY different dates.

At the time of the PIE I argued that changing the date could be a problem for us because 3 years ago we got dinged in the HSI for not tracking it. I was told to go ahead & change it because we could document why I made the change & it wouldn't be a problem.

Guess what??? It's a problem. I got dinged for it. Dammit.

Fortunately I was able to provide written documentation from the rectal void that directed me. I am very good at my job, I know the regulations inside out. This pisses me off to no end because I knew better. The rectal void that directed me is no longer here & I was left to take the heat.

I was telling my boss about it when our Commander showed up. When he walked in, Sarah told me I needed to brief him. I almost lost it. I was able to get to the ladies room before I started bawling. I got myself together & went back to my office.

As I walked back into my office Col Cole pointed his finger at me & said, "You are an Outstanding PEBLO (physical evaluation board liaison officer). What can we do to fix this?"

I explained & he went off--not at me but in frustration about the situation. I have never had a tremendous amount of support from this man until very recently. This is the same man that once asked me what they could do to help me besides giving me an a body to assist me--when the only thing I needed was a body. To have him stand behind me in this was AWESOME!

ETA: Diet is ON TRACK!!!
