I'm tired. I'm feeling like crap about my job. I had not one but THREE of the senior leaders come talk to me on Thursday & Friday asking me what it will take to keep me there. WTF? They can't give me money. The government doesn't work that way. Besides, it's not about money but the workload.

What I got told on Tuesday or Wednesday was to give my National Guard cases to one of the guys that works in the next office. I have ONE NG case. As if that will make any difference to the work load. When I made that comment I was told that we can't give him too much because he has his own responsibilities. Yet they can continue to just keep piling the work on me.

There is a reason the Department of Defense says that a Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Officer (PEBLO--my official job title) should only have 20 cases--THEY ARE A LOT OF WORK. I have 120 cases. Um, does anyone beside me see anything wrong with that picture????

I think that my office needs to be moved. I'm supposed to have a private space to brief the patients. I don't. I'm in a high traffic area & my office is treated like a walk-in clinic in the ghetto.

I'm also thinking that I would like to have my position moved under a different commander. That one will be a little more difficult for them to do because again it's a money thing.

Also they've been talking about getting my position upgraded. This is a matter of doing the paperwork to see if the AF Personnel Center will honor the request. The final decision is out of local leadership's hands but they have to initiate it. I want that done. If I don't get the promotion it isn't a local decision but do the fucking paperwork already.

So I've tried taking all of the emotion out of making my decision to stay at my job. If you could make demands, what would they be? I want to be reasonable but I also want things to change. No, I NEED things to change.

It does not matter if they give you a $1000 per month raise, you still can't handle the caseload you have period.

The office/privacy issue is really important for you and for your patients, in fact for HIPAA compliance.

Still, the #1 thing is the caseload. Are their hands completely tied to address that other than shifting 1 case? I know you have a helper, but it sounds like you need a couple of Deb clones!!

(The promotion would be good too, and very much deserved, it just seems the most immediate and continuing issue is the work load.)

Well, I think you need to step back here and determine what exactly the issue is (which you seem to know) and not allow it to get confused with other things (more money, promotions, etc.) which aren't going to actually do anything to resolve the problem.

What Kimmie and Marie said. A promotion would be lovely and you totally deserve it, but it won't do anything to resolve the problem, which is that you're literally doing the work of six people. If they won't hire another couple of people to help you out, the only option I can see is that they'll have to shift a meaningful portion of your workload to another officer. Maybe you could spend part of the day thinking about a logical way to do that, and then go back to management with a specific proposal? With the economy the way it is, some of your coworkers might actually be glad of some extra work. It's job security these days.

What they said.

I think you need to write down the things that are bothering you -- as you did here -- and present it to your superiors.

The problem also will be this: you are used to having a great deal of authority and control simply because you control so much of what you do (you have to to get it all done). Are you willing to give that up? I think that would be difficult.
