Last week we had a new "Wounded Warrior Medical Case Manager" (WWMCM) start at the clinic. She was hired as a contract employee through the same company my assistant was hired through. We got fortunate with my assistant because were able to "hand pick" her. The WWMCM, not so much.
The way government contracts sometimes work is that you, the employer, don't get to interview the new employee. This happened with the WWMCM.
She does not report to me. THANK GOD!
Anyway, Amy started on Monday. She was supposed to be at work at 7:30 AM. She didn't show up until 8:30. Strike 1. She was brought to my office by Sarah, our other case manager, to meet me because Amy will be working WITH me. Very closely.
When we met we talked for about 5 seconds before she said, "I don't even know what a medical case manager does." I let it go but made a mental note that if asked to raise the red flag. Strike 2. We then started talking about the issues that she had with the company that she works through. Tracy (my assistant) was there & shared some of her frustrations but advised this late-40-ish woman to DOCUMENT DOCUMENT DOCUMENT & communicate with them only via email spelling out exactly what info was needed & when the answer was expected. Amy said, "whenever I have problems, I'll just come talk to you." No less than 5 (FIVE) times Tracy had to say, "You need to email your POC at the DP."
She whined that she didn't know where to get supplies--a pad & pen. I gave one to her but told her to ask her supervisor for anything else she might need. Whine. Whine. Whine. There were several points in the conversation when Tracy & I thought she was going to cry. I mean, seriously teared up & got red nosed. Strike 3.
Later I talked to Sarah alone. Sarah expressed her concern that Amy wasn't going to cut it. And Strike 4 for good measure.
That was last Tuesday.
I spoke with our Chief of Nursing, Mary, regarding my concerns.
On Wednesday, Tracy ran into Amy again..."Where do I get my supplies?" Tracy, again, advised that she needed to talk to her supervisor.
Today Mary met with Amy for well over an hour and a half outlining what was expected of her. Mary came to my office at mid/late morning to tell me what was discussed & that I should expect to hear from Amy & Sarah to schedule an appointment to discuss what I expect of her. Mary also told me that I should expect to hear from Sarah as well as there are some cases that I will work with her on.
Tracy returned from lunch this afternoon to tell me that she saw Amy headed out of the base gate. She laughed & said, "Do you think she quit?" Nah...Why would she quit. She told Mary that she can handle the job.
At 3:15-ish I got a call from Sarah asking me if I'd heard from Amy. No, I had not. Sarah told me that she & Amy had been directed to get in touch with me regarding a scheduling a meeting, blah, blah, blah. I told Sarah that I'd make myself available next week because I'm only working today & tomorrow. Sarah & I also talked about a couple of cases that we needed to work on & put those to rest.
Because Sarah asked me if I had heard from Amy I asked if she had seen Amy since lunch. Sarah said she had not. I told her what Tracy said about seeing her leaving the base. Sarah just laughed & said she must me have been going to lunch.
After I hung up, Tracy & I took a walk through the clinic (I do this to stretch my legs & do a little schmoozing with the docs). We walked past Amy's office. The door was shut, locked, & the lights weren't on. So, we walked down to Sarah's office & reported our findings.
Sarah called Amy's office. No answer. No surprise. She left a message saying that she was just checking in to make sure all was good. We had a good laugh that she must have decided she didn't want the job because Amy told NO ONE that she was leaving.
To my knowledge Amy did not return Sarah's call. We don't know if she left early, quit, or what. I think she quit.
So then as I'm sitting here reading this over to make sure that I have not used real names anywhere & it occurs to me...what if she was in an accident? Aren't I gonna feel like a shit for laughing that this woman took a job that she TOTALLY was not qualified for & walked out but was really in a car accident.
Fuck.

That gave me a headache.
I hope she quits. What is with these people? How do they get around? Good geezus... good luck in getting her sorted on the way out the door if she didn't quit.
She probably quit. And if she didn't, she won't be around long anyway. Ugh.
Sheesh. For everyone's sakes, I hope she quit.
I hope she quit too (...but that she is safe, intact, unharmed, etc.!) It does not sound like she has the qualifications OR the initiative to handle the work, so hopefully she is gone now so they can get you someone who does.
